A Uganda 11-person education delegation came to XTU on the afternoon of May 15, 2017, for a communication and launching their Chinese cultural trip. Vice President Liu Changgeng attended the welcoming ceremony.

Liu extended a warm welcome to the guests. He made a brief introduction of Chinese history and higher education, and XTU’s profile. He expected the visit will enable the Ugandan guests to further understand Chinese culture, promote cooperation between XTU and Makerere University (MAK), and deepen friendship between the two countries. The delegation remarked that China is a miracle creator taking the lead in world development. They thanked XTU for establishing Confucius Institute in Uganda, which helped to popularize Chinese language teaching and strengthen Ugandans’ understanding of Chinese culture. They are eager to promote Chinese language teaching to primary and secondary schools, so as to better comprehend the Chinese culture, and participate in the “Belt and Road” Initiative advancement.

The Ugandan delegation will have field study in China’s higher education institutions, primary and secondary schools, and historical and cultural attractions; and listen to various cultural lectures to learn more about Chinese primary and secondary education system, and further familiarize themselves with the models, curriculum systems, and facilities for Chinese language teaching.

The visit was organized by the Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, applied by MAK Confucius Institute, and undertaken by XTU. The MAK Confucius Institute is the first of its kind in Uganda, and the second founded by XTU around the world. It officially opened on December 19, 2014. Over the past two years, both sides have extended fruitful cooperation in Chinese language teaching, project collaboration, and cultural exchange.
